Business
Global X HealthTech ETF (HEAL) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results corresponding generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the Global X HealthTech Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities comprising the index and in American Depositary Receipts and Global Depositary Receipts based on such securities, targeting companies at the intersection of healthcare and technology across four key sub-themes: healthcare analytics and software solutions; smart medical devices; AI-enabled drug discovery; and tech-enabled consumer healthcare. Top holdings include DexCom Inc., GE HealthCare Technologies Inc., IQVIA Holdings Inc., TransMedics Group Inc., and Intuitive Surgical Inc., with primary sector exposure to health care (over 90%), alongside minor allocations to materials and financials; the fund operates globally, including holdings in U.S., Australian, Hong Kong, and European companies. Originally launched in July 2020 as the Global X Telemedicine & Digital Health ETF (EDOC), the fund underwent a significant rebranding and strategic expansion to its current form, officially transitioning to HEAL effective April 1, 2025, with a replacement of the underlying index to broaden exposure across the evolving healthtech ecosystem beyond telemedicine and digital health. Global X ETFs, the sponsor and manager headquartered in New York and founded in 2008, provides the ETF as part of its broader lineup of over 90 thematic, income, commodity, and international access strategies, with a focus on disruptive innovations; HEAL targets institutional and retail investors seeking growth in the healthtech market, projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2032 amid aging populations and technological advancements in patient care, drug development, and clinical workflows.
