Business
Franklin Genomic Advancements ETF (HELX) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks capital appreciation by investing primarily in equity securities of companies driving advancements in genomics, including DNA sequencing, gene editing, gene therapy, genome analysis, genetic engineering, and personalized medicine; it targets firms substantially focused on or expected to benefit from incorporating genomic technological and scientific developments into their businesses to extend and enhance human and animal life quality. The fund employs bottom-up fundamental analysis by a Silicon Valley-based team to select global stocks across biotechnology (approximately 50%), life sciences tools and services (26%), pharmaceuticals (9%), health care services (9%), and other related sectors, with top holdings such as Natera Inc., Guardant Health Inc., Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc., Medpace Holdings Inc., and Insmed Inc.; it benchmarks against the Russell 3000 Index and trades on the Cboe exchange with a total expense ratio of 0.50%. Launched on February 25, 2020, and issued by Franklin Templeton ETF Trust under Franklin Advisers, Inc., headquartered in San Mateo, California, HELX maintains a portfolio of 60-65 holdings with total net assets around $17-22 million as of late 2025, including investments inside and outside the United States, such as emerging markets and positions in companies like Samsung Biologics Co. Ltd. While no HELX-specific acquisitions, partnerships, or product launches occurred in the last 1-2 years, Franklin Templeton, its manager, pursued strategic expansions including the January 2025 launch of the Franklin Lexington Private Markets Fund in partnership with Lexington Partners for U.S. wealth channel private equity secondaries, the announced June 2025 acquisition of Apera Asset Management to bolster European direct lending, and a July 2024 partnership with Japan's SBI Holdings to grow ETF and digital asset offerings. The fund remains concentrated in health care innovation with heightened sector-specific risks, international exposure, and active management aimed at outperforming its benchmark through thematic stock selection.
