Business
Indus Infra Trust (INDUSINVIT.BO) is an Indian infrastructure investment trust focused on providing long‑term, stable returns by investing in revenue‑generating operating infrastructure assets, primarily in the power and energy sectors. The Trust is structured as a publicly listed InvIT under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Infrastructure Investment Trusts) Regulations, 2014, and is sponsored by Indus Towers Limited, a leading independent telecom tower infrastructure company in India. The Trust’s principal business activity is the acquisition and ownership of completed and operational infrastructure projects that generate regular cash flows, with a primary focus on power and renewable energy assets. Core operating segments include power transmission and distribution infrastructure, renewable energy generation projects (such as solar and wind), and related utility and energy infrastructure assets. The Trust invests in assets that are typically concession‑based or long‑term contracted, including power transmission systems, substations, and associated grid infrastructure, as well as renewable energy parks and plants. Primary products and services stem from its investment in and operation of revenue‑generating infrastructure assets, structured as follows: ownership and operation of power transmission and distribution assets; investment in operating renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hybrid); holding of power utility and grid infrastructure assets; and generation and sale of electricity from its owned renewable assets. The Trust also provides asset management and related services through its manager, which is responsible for managing the InvIT portfolio, identifying acquisition opportunities, and ensuring operational and financial performance of the underlying assets. Geographically, the Trust operates entirely within India, with investments concentrated in states where its sponsor and manager have a strong operational footprint, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other key energy‑producing and consuming regions. The Trust’s target market consists of institutional investors, retail investors, and long‑term capital allocators seeking stable, dividend‑oriented returns from infrastructure assets, particularly in the power and energy segments. The Trust was established in 2022 and is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Indus Towers Limited serves as the sponsor of Indus Infra Trust, while its operations are managed by an independent manager appointed in accordance with SEBI InvIT regulations. The Trust does not have any direct operating subsidiaries but holds interests in special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and operating companies that own the underlying power and renewable energy assets. In recent years, Indus Infra Trust has undertaken several strategic initiatives to expand its asset base and diversify its portfolio. The Trust has completed multiple accretive acquisitions of operational power transmission and renewable energy assets, including transmission lines, substations, and solar parks, financed through equity issuance and debt instruments. It has also entered into strategic partnerships and joint venture arrangements with power utilities and infrastructure developers to co‑invest in select greenfield and brownfield projects, enhancing its scale and portfolio mix. Recent major developments include the launch of new greenfield and brownfield renewable energy projects under the Trust’s portfolio, particularly in the solar and hybrid power segments, aimed at increasing its renewable energy footprint. The Trust has also raised fresh capital through follow‑on public offerings and non‑convertible debentures to fund its acquisition pipeline and strengthen its balance sheet. Operationally, the Trust has implemented enhanced asset monitoring and performance management systems for its power and renewable assets, focusing on improving plant load factors, grid availability, and cash flow visibility.
