United Bank Limited was founded in 1959 and is headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan. The bank operates as a subsidiary of the British multinational conglomerate Bestway Group, which holds a majority equity stake. The institution maintains an extensive domestic network of over 2,000 branches and customer touchpoints across Pakistan, alongside an international presence across the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar, as well as operations in the United Kingdom through United National Bank Limited, and specialized international banking subsidiaries and representative offices. In recent strategic developments, United Bank Limited executed the amalgamation and merger of Silkbank Limited into its operations in March 2025 following approval from the State Bank of Pakistan, integrating Silkbank's assets, branch network, and consumer portfolios through a share-swap arrangement to strengthen its retail banking market share. To advance its digital payments and merchant ecosystem, UBL partnered with Euronet in 2026 to serve as its primary point-of-sale acquiring processor, modernizing its digital merchant acquiring infrastructure. In 2025, the bank entered into a strategic partnership with cross-border payments platform LemFi to streamline international remittance channels for non-resident Pakistanis, and expanded its enterprise data collaboration with Teradata to implement an open Data Lakehouse platform powered by artificial intelligence and advanced analytics for customer personalization and credit risk assessment.
