Business
iShares Global Comm Services ETF (IXP) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of global equities in the communication services sector. The fund employs a representative sampling strategy to replicate the performance of the S&P Global 1200 Communication Services 4.5/22.5/45 Capped Index, which measures the performance of large-, mid- and small-cap global equities selected from a universe of approximately 1,200 stocks; major holdings include Meta Platforms Inc., Alphabet Inc. Class A and Class C shares, Tencent Holdings Ltd., AT&T Inc., Netflix Inc., The Walt Disney Co., Verizon Communications Inc., Deutsche Telekom AG and Comcast Corp., representing over 70% of assets. It offers investors passive exposure to communication services companies engaged in telecommunications, media, entertainment and interactive media/services subsectors, with an expense ratio of 0.40% and semi-annual distributions. Launched on November 12, 2001 and managed by BlackRock, Inc. under the iShares brand, IXP is domiciled in the United States with global operations providing access to developed and emerging market equities across regions including North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific; the fund targets institutional and retail investors seeking sector-specific diversification. As of late 2025, assets under management stand at approximately $583 million, with a market capitalization around $866 million and shares outstanding near 4.85 million. It maintains a non-diversified portfolio of around 104 holdings, exhibiting a beta of 0.88 relative to broader markets. Recent developments include sustained strong performance, with a one-year total return of 33.66% including dividends and a dividend yield of 1.14%, alongside HSBC Holdings PLC establishing a new position of 700,747 shares valued at $78.7 million in Q2 2025, reflecting institutional interest. The fund has experienced no major structural changes such as name updates, index shifts, launches, acquisitions or partnerships specific to IXP in 2024-2025; however, BlackRock has pursued broader iShares expansions including collaborations with STOXX on AI-themed ETFs in December 2024 and launches like the iShares Systematic Alternatives ETF in December 2025, alongside product enhancements for other funds. These issuer-level strategic moves support ongoing innovation in the iShares lineup amid evolving market demands for thematic and alternative exposures.
