Business
Ionic Rare Earths Limited Ionic Rare Earths Limited develops and commercializes technologies for mining, refining, and recycling magnet and heavy rare earth elements essential for energy transition, advanced manufacturing, wind turbines, electric vehicles, and defense applications; core activities encompass the Makuutu Heavy Rare Earths Project in Uganda, an advanced-stage ionic adsorption clay deposit producing mixed rare earth carbonates and refined oxides; proprietary recycling via its 100% owned subsidiary Ionic Technologies International Limited, which employs patented solvent extraction processes developed at Queens University Belfast to separate high-purity magnet rare earth oxides including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium from spent NdFeB magnets and swarf; and a planned standalone heavy rare earth refinery for downstream value addition to metals, magnets, and compounds. The company operates across Australia, the United Kingdom, Uganda, and pursues global expansion including joint ventures in Brazil with Viridion Mining and Minerals Limited for pilot REO refining and magnet recycling plants, targeting North America, Europe, and Asia to establish sovereign, ex-China supply chains compliant with regulations such as the EU Critical Raw Materials Act. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, Ionic Rare Earths Limited recently completed an oversubscribed A$15.6 million capital raise in October 2025 through a renounceable rights issue and placement, featuring a US$3 million strategic investment from Argentem Creek Partners to fund Belfast magnet recycling plant development, Brazilian joint venture advancement, and broader expansion; secured additional UK Government grants totaling over A$25 million including £11 million for the CirculaREEconomy consortium and £2 million via the Automotive Transformation Fund to support a Belfast REO manufacturing facility with post-tax NPV of US$502 million and construction targeted for late 2026; and progressed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with SENAI FIEMG in Brazil backed by Invest Minas for rare earth magnet development at lower operating costs.
