- Janus Detroit Street Trust – Janus Henderson Asset-Backed Securities ETF is a U.S.-listed, actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks current income with an emphasis on capital preservation through investment in high-quality, U.S. dollar-denominated asset-backed securities. Trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker JABS, the fund was launched on July 23, 2025, as a portfolio of Janus Detroit Street Trust, a Denver, Colorado-based registered investment trust. Janus Henderson Investors US LLC serves as investment adviser, while ALPS Distributors Inc. serves as distributor; the fund is managed by John Kerschner, Global Head of Securitized Products, and Nick Childs, Head of Structured and Quantitative Fixed Income.
The fund’s principal investment products comprise a professionally managed portfolio of asset-backed debt securities, including consumer-loan securitizations; automobile-loan and lease receivables securities; equipment-finance receivables; credit-card and other consumer receivables structures; private and multi-class asset-backed structures; pass-through certificates; collateralized loan obligations; collateralized mortgage obligations; agency and non-agency residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities; Rule 144A and other restricted securities; affiliated exchange-traded funds; other fixed-income securities; cash and cash equivalents. Under normal conditions, JABS invests at least 80% of net assets, plus borrowings for investment purposes, in asset-backed securities and primarily targets securities rated A- or equivalent or higher at purchase, while not purchasing securities below investment grade. It may invest in fixed-, floating- and variable-rate securities of any maturity or duration and may use interest-rate futures solely to hedge existing portfolio risks. The fund applies active top-down and bottom-up research, relative-value analysis, security selection, fundamental analysis and quantitative signals to evaluate yield per unit of risk across the U.S. consumer-lending and securitized-credit markets.
JABS serves retail, intermediary, advisory and institutional investors, including insurance companies, seeking access to investment-grade asset-backed securities, income diversification and short-duration fixed-income exposure. The fund is non-diversified under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and does not seek to replicate an index, although the ICE BofA US Fixed & Floating Rate Asset Backed Securities Index is used as a performance reference. As of September 2026, its portfolio included 139 debt issues and investments across consumer ABS, CLOs, mortgage-related securities and affiliated Janus Henderson securitized ETFs; its reported weighted-average maturity was 2.57 years, effective duration was 2.01 years and yield to worst was 5.57%.
The fund’s principal recent strategic development is its July 2025 launch by Janus Henderson as an expansion of the firm’s active fixed-income and securitized ETF platform. The product was introduced to provide predominantly fixed-rate, short-duration, investment-grade securitized exposure and to complement the Janus Henderson AAA CLO ETF, which principally provides floating-rate CLO exposure. The launch broadened Janus Henderson’s securitized ETF suite, which also includes the Janus Henderson AAA CLO ETF, Janus Henderson B-BBB CLO ETF, Janus Henderson Mortgage-Backed Securities ETF and Janus Henderson Securitized Income ETF. In February 2026, the fund’s updated prospectus disclosed a contractual management-fee waiver or reimbursement arrangement relating to investments in affiliated ETFs that remains effective through at least February 28, 2028; management fees are 0.33% and total annual operating expenses after the waiver are 0.33%.
