Business
Nuveen Floating Rate Income Fund (NYSE: JFR) is a closed-end fixed income mutual fund that seeks a high level of current income through investments primarily in adjustable-rate senior loans and other debt instruments. At least 80% of its managed assets consist of adjustable-rate loans, with at least 65% allocated to senior loans secured by specific collateral; additional holdings may include unsecured senior loans, as well as secured and unsecured subordinated loans. The fund employs leverage to enhance returns and targets below-investment-grade floating-rate loans and securities, with capital appreciation as a secondary objective; it operates within the U.S. fixed income markets, serving income-focused investors. Launched on March 24, 2004 and domiciled in the United States, the fund is managed by Nuveen Fund Advisors, LLC and co-managed by Symphony Asset Management LLC, with headquarters at 333 West Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois. It is part of the Nuveen family of investment products, backed by the broader Nuveen organization founded in 1898. Recent developments include a successful transferable rights offering concluded on February 19, 2025, which raised approximately $220.7 million in gross proceeds through the issuance of up to 26,911,238 additional common shares at $8.20 per share, reflecting strong investor demand and oversubscription. Effective December 30, 2024, Coale Mechlin joined Scott Caraher as co-portfolio manager, a change not expected to alter the fund's investment strategy. Previously, the fund participated in mergers that positioned it as the largest listed senior loan closed-end fund, accompanied by a 14% increase in its monthly distribution.
