Business
Knorr-Bremse AG designs, manufactures, distributes, and provides service solutions for braking and various other advanced systems tailored for rail and commercial vehicles across global markets. The company’s operations are structured into two principal divisions: Rail Vehicle Systems and Commercial Vehicle Systems. Within the Rail Vehicle Systems segment, Knorr-Bremse supplies an array of critical components and integrated solutions for mass transit and long-distance trains. These encompass sophisticated braking systems, intelligent entrance and climate control (HVAC) systems, robust power electrics and control technology, digital solutions enhancing rail traffic optimization, coupling mechanisms, signal systems, and specialized testing equipment. The segment further offers essential auxiliary power supply systems, windscreen wiper arrangements, and sanitary provisions. The Commercial Vehicle Systems division focuses on trucks, buses, trailers, and agricultural machinery, delivering comprehensive braking systems, including electronic controls, disc brakes, and air treatment products. Its portfolio also features advanced steering systems, vehicle dynamics controls, driver assistance technologies, automated driving functionalities, and electronic leveling systems. Furthermore, this segment provides energy supply and distribution systems, engine components, and sophisticated transmission control units. Beyond its core product lines, the company extends its expertise to include comprehensive aftermarket services, logistics support, and various IT solutions. Knorr-Bremse is committed to fostering sustainable mobility, exemplified by its achievement of carbon neutrality across global sites in 2021 and an ongoing objective to halve carbon emissions by 2030. Recent strategic moves include the acquisition of Alstom's American rail signaling business in September 2024 to bolster its rail capabilities. Established in 1905 in Berlin, Germany, Knorr-Bremse AG currently maintains its headquarters in Munich, Germany. It operates as a subsidiary of KB Holding GmbH.
