KraneShares China Innovation ETF (KGRO) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that provides investors with targeted exposure to high-growth innovation sectors within the Chinese economy. The ETF primarily invests at least 80% of its net assets in other KraneShares China-focused ETFs, including the KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB), KraneShares MSCI All China Health Care Index ETF (KURE), KraneShares MSCI China Clean Technology Index ETF (KGRN), KraneShares CICC China 5G & Semiconductor Index ETF (KFVG), and KraneShares SSE STAR Market 50 Index ETF (KSTR); it may also allocate up to 15% of its net assets to securities of private Chinese companies aligned with these themes, such as those preparing for initial public offerings. These holdings span key "New China" areas like internet services, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, clean energy and environmental technologies, 5G telecommunications and semiconductors, and science & technology innovation on the Shanghai STAR Market. Launched in October 2021 by Krane Funds Advisors, LLC (doing business as KraneShares), the ETF operates as a fund-of-funds strategy to capture growth in China's technology-driven industries, targeting institutional and retail investors seeking diversified access to Chinese equities listed on mainland China, Hong Kong, and U.S. exchanges. KraneShares, founded in 2012 and headquartered at 280 Park Avenue, 32nd Floor, in New York, NY, manages a suite of thematic ETFs focused on China, climate, and alternative assets; the firm maintains majority ownership by China International Capital Corporation (CICC) following a 2017 strategic partnership. In recent developments, KraneShares announced estimated per-share distributions for its ETFs, including KGRO, in December 2025, reflecting ongoing portfolio management amid China's evolving market dynamics. The firm continues to highlight momentum in underlying sectors, such as semiconductor advancements via STAR Market IPOs (e.g., Cambricon Technologies) and healthcare regulatory tailwinds boosting biotechnology leaders like Akeso and WuXi Biologics, as noted in 2025 thematic updates. No major acquisitions, funding rounds, or structural changes specific to KGRO have been reported in the last 1-2 years, with focus remaining on active rebalancing within high-conviction innovation themes.
