Business
Xtrackers MSCI Kokusai Equity ETF (KOKU) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks investment results corresponding generally to the performance, before fees and expenses, of the MSCI Kokusai Index. The fund tracks a market cap-weighted index comprising large- and mid-cap stocks from developed markets excluding Japan, with at least 80% of its total assets invested in component securities of the underlying index; top holdings include NVIDIA Corporation (5.62%), Microsoft Corporation (4.92%), Apple Inc. (4.44%), Amazon.com, Inc. (2.99%), and Meta Platforms, Inc. (2.13%), spanning sectors such as information technology, financials, consumer discretionary, and health care across 1,162 holdings. Launched on April 8, 2020, and domiciled in the United States, KOKU trades on the NYSE Arca exchange with a net expense ratio of 0.09% and total net assets of approximately $646-700 million as of late 2025. KOKU provides investors exposure to global large-stock blend strategies targeting institutional and retail clients in the United States and select international markets, primarily through equity securities from the United States (76.32% allocation), non-U.S. developed markets (23.40%), and minimal cash/other assets. The ETF is managed by a team including Patrick Dwyer and Shlomo Bassous since inception, with recent additions such as Daniel Park in December 2024. It is issued by Xtrackers, the ETF platform of DWS Group, a Frankfurt-based asset manager with over 60 years of history, majority-owned by Deutsche Bank, and approximately $896 billion in assets under management as of December 2023. Recent developments for the Xtrackers ETF suite, including KOKU's issuer, encompass strategic expansions such as the February 2024 launch of the firm's first active ETF, Xtrackers RREEF Global Real Estate ETF (NRES), leveraging DWS's $120 billion alternatives platform. In September 2025, DWS collaborated with STOXX to launch the Xtrackers Europe Defence Technologies UCITS ETF and transitioned another fund to the STOXX Europe Total Market Leaders index, reflecting a push into thematic and market-leader strategies amid Europe's military upgrades. Xtrackers continues to prioritize retail investor growth in Europe and geographic expansion, contributing to record DWS assets in Q3 2025. KOKU itself maintains steady operations, with regular quarterly distributions declared throughout 2025 (e.g., $0.4220, $0.5709) and modest short interest growth to 1,100 shares in October 2025.
