Business
KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA is a leading global plant breeding company headquartered in Einbeck, Germany, founded in 1856. The company specializes in the breeding, production, and distribution of seeds for a variety of agricultural crops including sugar beet, corn (maize), cereals (wheat, rye, barley, oats), oilseeds and protein plants (sunflower, soybean, oilseed rape), vegetables (melon, cucumber, tomato, pepper, green bean, spinach), and special crops such as potatoes. KWS employs advanced breeding methods such as hybrid breeding, genetic engineering, genome editing, and digital phenotyping to develop high-yield, disease-resistant, and climate-adapted seed varieties. It operates in approximately 70 countries across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and North Africa, serving farmers and agricultural businesses globally. The company is organized into key business segments focused on sugar beet, corn, cereals, and vegetables. It also offers complementary services and consultation to optimize agricultural practices for diverse regions. KWS manages its subsidiaries and subsidiaries in many countries, maintaining its status as an independent, family-owned enterprise. In fiscal year 2024/2025, KWS reported revenues of around €1.68 billion and employed over 5,100 people, with a substantial investment in research and development, approximately €349 million. Its strategic leadership emphasizes innovation in seed technology and sustainable agricultural solutions. Recent major changes include the completion of the sale of its North American joint venture AgReliant Genetics in 2025, which marked a strategic exit from direct corn operations in North America to focus on its European corn business. KWS has also adopted a new dividend policy with a proposed dividend of €1.25 per share for the fiscal year 2024/2025. The company confirmed positive financial forecasts despite a mixed performance in crop segments such as winter crops and sugarbeet. KWS continues to expand its portfolio and market reach through new product launches and strategic alliances, including the collaborative development of the CONVISO® SMART weed control system with Bayer, and innovations like the PollenPLUS technology to improve hybrid rye resilience. In summary, KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA is a strategically focused seed breeding and distribution company with a broad and technologically advanced product portfolio, a commitment to research-driven growth, and recent strategic realignments aimed at strengthening its core markets and improving profitability. It serves agricultural customers worldwide with an integrated offering designed to meet evolving agricultural challenges and demands.
