Business
Lassonde Industries Inc. is a Canadian agri-food company specializing in the development, production, and marketing of a broad portfolio of food and beverage products. The company's core offerings include ready-to-drink fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies, frozen concentrates, flavored waters, and juices from concentrate; specialized food products such as pasta sauces, ready-to-eat soups, fondue broths and sauces, bruschetta toppings, tapenades, pestos, and pizza and pasta sauces; fruit snacks in various formats and flavors; as well as imported and packaged alcoholic beverages including wines and apple cider. Lassonde serves two main market segments: retail sales to food retailers and wholesalers—encompassing supermarket chains, independent merchants, mass merchandisers, warehouse clubs, large pharmacy chains, and online sales—and food service sales to restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, and wholesalers serving these establishments. Founded in 1918 and headquartered in Rougemont, Quebec, Lassonde operates throughout North America, maintaining significant manufacturing and distribution networks in Canada and the United States. Recent major developments include a significant acquisition completed in 2024 through its 90%-owned U.S. subsidiary of The Zidian Group, which operates Summer Garden Food Manufacturing, a U.S.-based specialty food manufacturer and distributor. This acquisition, executed for approximately US$241 million, substantially expands Lassonde's specialty food product offerings, notably in pasta sauces, and increases its U.S. market presence, positioning Lassonde as a leading specialty food manufacturer in North America. Additionally, the company is undertaking a US$200 million investment program to enhance its U.S. beverage manufacturing network through the construction of a new beverage production facility, aimed at strengthening its operational capacity and competitiveness. Lassonde continues to innovate with new production technologies, such as inaugurating a new bag-in-a-box production line at its Rougemont plant in 2025, reflecting ongoing commitments to sustainability and operational efficiency. Lassonde's strategic focus emphasizes innovation in product development, sustainability, and operational excellence, aiming to grow its footprint in the North American market while expanding its specialty food and beverage categories. The company actively manages a portfolio of over 3,500 unique products under national brands and private labels, tailoring solutions for both mass-market and niche retail and food service customers. Lassonde remains focused on achieving ambitious growth targets and margin expansion by leveraging acquisitions, capital investments, and product innovation across its broad-based food and drink platform.
