Business
First Trust Low Duration Opportunities ETF (LMBS) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to generate current income with capital appreciation as a secondary objective by investing primarily in investment-grade, short-duration, U.S. fixed income securities, including mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, U.S. government securities, corporate debt securities, and high-yield securities; it employs derivatives such as U.S. Treasury futures, options, and swaps to achieve its targeted duration of less than three years. The fund, part of First Trust Exchange-Traded Fund IV and advised by First Trust Advisors L.P., was launched on November 4, 2014, and is domiciled in the United States with shares listed on Nasdaq. LMBS targets investors seeking short-term fixed income exposure with low interest rate sensitivity, maintaining a diversified portfolio of approximately 1,072 holdings, with top allocations to asset-backed securities (54%), mortgage-backed securities (29%), and sovereign debt (15%). Recent developments include regular monthly distributions announced by First Trust Advisors L.P., with the latest declaration on December 11, 2025, covering LMBS among 156 exchange-traded funds; ongoing 19a-1 notices for estimated income composition through mid-2025; and a new 52-week high price of $50.25 reached on November 29, 2025, amid increased institutional interest from firms such as First Trust Advisors LP and Bank of New York Mellon Corp. Portfolio management saw the addition of Owen Aronson as co-manager effective December 31, 2023, alongside James Snyder and Jeremiah Charles. As of late 2025, assets under management stand at approximately $5.39 billion, reflecting steady inflows and strong performance with a one-year return of 5.72%.
