Business
Lumina Gold Corp. is a Vancouver-based precious and base metals exploration and development company primarily focused on its 100% ownership of the Cangrejos gold-copper project located in El Oro Province, southwest Ecuador. The company’s core products and services include the exploration, development, and eventual production of gold and copper at Cangrejos, a large-scale porphyry deposit with low stripping ratios and favorable open-pit mining conditions. Lumina Gold’s offerings include gold doré and gold-copper concentrate, supported by robust infrastructure such as access to power, water, roads, and ports. The company targets mining operations focusing on primary gold and copper production with long-life, low-cost asset profiles. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Vancouver, Lumina Gold operates within the mineral exploration and mining sector with a strategic focus on advancing the Cangrejos project through various phases including feasibility studies and mining preparation. The company completed a Pre-Feasibility Study in 2023, highlighting production capacity starting in 2030 with ramped output by 2037 and projection of significant gold and copper output over the mine life. In addition to the Cangrejos project, the company has surface rights covering 2,444 hectares within a broader concession area of 5,682 hectares. A major recent development is the acquisition of Lumina Gold by CMOC Group Limited, completed in June 2025 for approximately C$581 million in an all-cash transaction. This strategic acquisition by CMOC Singapore Pte. Ltd., a CMOC subsidiary, followed shareholder approval and Canadian regulatory compliance processes. The acquisition reflects CMOC’s commitment to supporting the operational needs and future development of the Cangrejos project, evidenced also by a concurrent $20 million convertible bond issuance to fund ongoing project activities. Lumina Gold has also secured a long-term extension of its mining concession in Ecuador by 25 years and finalized exploitation contract terms with the Government of Ecuador, positioning the company for progression into the exploitation phase in 2025 and beyond. Lumina Gold’s operational focus is to advance the Cangrejos project through feasibility and permitting stages while leveraging strategic partnerships and funding to enhance project economics. The company’s strategic alliances, financial backing, and regulatory agreements support its goal of becoming a significant gold-copper producer in Ecuador, targeting a production profile averaging over 370,000 ounces of gold annually across the mine life with corresponding copper output. Overall, Lumina Gold operates as a development-stage mining company specializing in the exploration and advancement of gold and copper resources in Ecuador, marked by its flagship Cangrejos project, and recently underwent a transformative acquisition that strengthens its financial and operational foundation for future production growth.
