Business
Madras Fertilizers Limited manufactures ammonia, urea, and complex fertilizers at its plant in Manali near Chennai, Tamil Nadu; produces bio-fertilizers and neem-based agrochemicals under the Vijay brand; and trades organic manure, city compost, and eco-friendly products. Incorporated in 1966 as a joint venture between the Government of India and Amoco India, with subsequent participation from the National Iranian Oil Company, the company operates as a public sector undertaking headquartered in Chennai, India, primarily serving the Indian agricultural sector through a network of dealers, cooperatives, and retail outlets in South India and other regions. Annual production capacities include 346,500 metric tons of ammonia, 486,750 metric tons of neem-coated urea, and up to 840,000 metric tons of NPK complex fertilizers following a major revamp in 1998. In recent developments, the company completed feedstock conversion from naphtha to RLNG in 2019, achieved record sales of organic products at 28,971 metric tons in fiscal 2024-25 including new launches of FOM and PROM, secured allocation for 4,000 metric tons of green ammonia supply under SECI's SIGHT Scheme in 2025 to support decarbonization, and advanced plans for a new greenfield ammonia/urea complex with 1.30 million tons per annum capacity under the New Investment Policy 2012 while exploring diversification into a modern business park.
