Madras Fertilizers Limited Madras Fertilizers Limited (MADRASFERT.NS) manufactures ammonia, urea, complex fertilizers including NPK complexes, and bio-fertilizers at its integrated plant facilities in Manali, near Chennai, India. The company, founded in 1966 as a joint venture between the Government of India and AMOCO India with subsequent participation from the National Iranian Oil Company, operates on 329 acres of freehold land and maintains headquarters in Manali, Chennai; its ownership comprises 59.50% by the Government of India, 25.77% by Naftiran Intertrade Co Ltd (an affiliate of NIOC), and 14.73% public holding. Core products encompass chemical fertilizers such as ammonia (installed capacity 346,500 MT), urea (486,750 MT), and NPK complexes (280,000 MT across three streams); bio-fertilizers (400 MT); and traded eco-friendly agro chemicals, organic manure, and city compost under the Vijay brand; the company markets these nationwide through regional offices, emphasizing balanced fertilizer application, neem-based products, and promotional programs for farmers. Recent developments include successful completion of feedstock conversion from naphtha to RLNG in 2019 for cost efficiency; ongoing current projects such as replacement of high-energy turbines with high-efficiency models; and future initiatives like energy reduction schemes in the ammonia plant, pre-feasibility studies for a new greenfield ammonia-urea complex (2,200 MTPD ammonia and 3,500 MTPD urea), NPK new train construction, desalination plant feasibility for seawater, and a new urea prill tower erection.
