Business
Matthews China Dividend Fund Investor Class (MCDFX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks total return with an emphasis on current income by investing at least 80% of its net assets in dividend-paying equity securities of companies located in China, including its administrative districts such as Hong Kong; it may also invest in convertible securities and debt of any maturity or quality, including unrated or below-investment-grade instruments. The fund pursues a total return strategy with lower volatility through an unconstrained all-cap portfolio featuring a quality bias and flexible participation in both growth and value markets, primarily allocating to non-U.S. stocks (approximately 98.87%) across sectors like consumer cyclical, industrials, financial services, consumer defensive, and communication services; top holdings include Tencent Holdings Ltd, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Ping An Insurance, Fuyao Glass Industry Group, and China Construction Bank Corp. Managed by Sherwood Zhang since April 2014, along with Winnie Chwang and Andrew Mattock since December 2022, the fund targets the China Region within the Morningstar category and maintains a net expense ratio of 1.32%, with a minimum initial investment of $2,500. Launched on November 30, 2009, and domiciled in the United States with headquarters at Four Embarcadero Center, Suite 550, San Francisco, California, it serves U.S. investors through daily pricing and offers share classes including institutional (MICDX). In a significant recent development, the fund intends to reorganize into the Matthews Asia Dividend Fund on or about January 27, 2026, broadening its scope beyond China.
