Business
Midas Fund Inc. (MIDSX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks primarily capital appreciation and protection against inflation, and secondarily current income, through investments principally in securities of companies involved in the business of mining, processing, fabricating, distributing or otherwise dealing in gold, silver, platinum, other precious metals or natural resources; gold, silver and platinum bullion and coins; and any type of equity security. The fund concentrates at least 25% of its total assets in such natural resource companies and may allocate up to 35% to fixed income securities of any credit quality or maturity, although it currently limits non-investment grade holdings to no more than 5%. It is managed by Midas Management Corporation and part of the Midas Funds family, which also includes Midas Magic (MISEX) and is associated with Winmill & Co. Incorporated in 1995 as a Maryland corporation and with a fund inception date of January 8, 1986, Midas Fund Inc. is headquartered in New York, New York, with historical addresses at 11 Hanover Square. The fund targets investors seeking exposure to precious metals and natural resources equities, primarily in mid-growth style within the Equity Precious Metals category, holding a concentrated portfolio of approximately 23 issues focused on gold miners such as Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd., Lundin Gold Inc., and Evolution Mining Ltd. Geographic operations emphasize North America, Australia and South Africa for its natural resource investments. In April 2025, Midas Funds announced a name change for MIDSX to Midas Discovery, reflecting a rebranding effort alongside MISEX, as part of ongoing updates including regular releases of fact sheets, top holdings and market scopes throughout 2024 and into 2025. The fund has maintained strong performance, with year-to-date returns exceeding 140% as of late 2025 amid favorable precious metals markets, and continues routine portfolio disclosures such as top ten holdings as of August 31, 2025. No major acquisitions, partnerships or funding rounds were reported for the entity in the last 1-2 years, with operational focus remaining on active management and investor communications.
