- MOIL Limited, a Miniratna Category-I public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel, engages in the mining and production of manganese ore, contributing around 50% of India's total manganese ore output. Incorporated on June 22, 1962, as Manganese Ore (India) Limited and renamed MOIL Limited in fiscal 2010-11, the company is headquartered at MOIL Bhawan, 1-A Katol Road, Nagpur, Maharashtra, and operates underground and opencast mines primarily in the Nagpur and Bhandara districts of Maharashtra and Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. It produces and sells various grades of manganese ore, including high-grade ores for ferro manganese production; medium-grade ore for silico manganese; blast furnace-grade ore for hot metal production; and manganese dioxide ore for dry battery cells, chemical industries, cattle feed, and fertilizers; alongside value-added products such as electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) from a 1,500 MT per annum plant for dry battery cells and ferro manganese from a 12,000 MT per annum plant; it also generates renewable power through 4.8 MW wind farm at Nagda Hills and 15.2 MW at Ratedi Hills in Madhya Pradesh. MOIL caters to domestic steel, alloy, battery, and chemical sectors, fulfilling about 48% of India's dioxide ore needs with annual production around 1.8 million tonnes, and has expanded into international markets. Recent developments include commencing exports of manganese ore as a State Trading Enterprise in September 2025; achieving record production milestones such as best-ever September output with 10.3% growth in Q2 FY26, highest-ever July and August production in FY26, and record quarterly production in April-June 2025; delivering best financial year performance in FY25 with 30% profit jump and 27% Q4 growth; signing an MoU with State Bank of India for corporate salary package in May 2025; and pursuing international expansion through planned MoUs for manganese ore exploration and acquisition in Gabon.
