Business
Nuveen Multi-Asset Income Fund (NYSE: NMAI) is a closed-end fund that seeks attractive total return through a combination of high current income and capital appreciation by dynamically investing in a global portfolio of equity and debt securities. The Fund employs a flexible, risk-based allocation strategy across asset classes worldwide, with no limits on holdings in any type of equity or debt securities; relative allocations to equities, debt, and income strategies vary over time to meet its objectives, and the Fund utilizes leverage to enhance returns. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange and follows a managed distribution policy designed to deliver relatively consistent cash flow to shareholders, sourced potentially from net investment income, realized gains, and return of capital. Launched in 2021 following the reorganization and merger of three predecessor Nuveen closed-end funds—Nuveen Diversified Dividend and Income Fund (JDD), Nuveen Tax-Advantaged Total Return Strategy Fund (JTA), and Nuveen Tax-Advantaged Dividend Growth Fund (JTD)—the Fund is managed by Nuveen Fund Advisors, LLC, with portfolio managers Nathan Shetty and Anurag Dugar. Headquartered at 333 West Wacker Drive in Chicago, Illinois, the Fund benefits from Nuveen's broader multi-asset capabilities, which span public and private markets globally, including fixed income, equities, real estate, infrastructure, and private capital. In June 2025, the Fund's Board approved a significant operational change, shifting its regular distribution frequency from quarterly ($0.4175 per share) to monthly ($0.1260 per share, reflecting approximately a 9% reduction on a monthly equivalent basis), effective with the July 1, 2025 distribution to better appeal to cash flow-focused investors. This adjustment aligns with ongoing portfolio management amid market conditions, where distributions as of late 2025 include estimated components of capital gains and return of capital alongside net investment income. The Fund operates within the global allocation category, targeting income-oriented investors through its diversified, leveraged approach without federal insurance or guarantees, and shares may trade at discounts to net asset value.
