The company operates through two primary divisions: Specialty Structures, encompassing the Triodetic Group, a design/build manufacturer of steel, aluminum and stainless-steel specialty structures including commercial domes, foundations for unstable soil conditions and flood zones, freeform structures such as barrel vaults and space frames, industrial dome coverings, and Spotton Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of high-end custom hydraulic and pneumatic valves and cylinders for industrial, automation, oil and gas, and aerospace applications; and Applied Electronics, including Hypernetics, a manufacturer of avionic components such as aircraft antiskid braking systems, instrument indicators, solenoids, high-purity valves and permanent magnetators, and Elmira Stove Works Inc., a producer of premium heritage and retro-styled kitchen appliances under the Northstar, Fireview and Heritage brand names. Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada, Plaintree Systems targets aerospace, defense, telecommunications, industrial and consumer markets with its diversified offerings. In July 2025, the company announced the strategic wind-down of its U.S. subsidiary Summit Aerospace USA Inc., a provider of high-precision 5-axis CNC machining for complex aerospace and defense components including turbine shrouds and pressure seals, with operations ceasing around August 15, 2025, and asset liquidation to follow, driven by the loss of a key client and aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and focusing on core growth areas; this subsidiary represented 10.1% of fiscal 2025 revenues but contributed 52% of consolidated net losses before taxes and other expenses. Previously, Plaintree acquired Elmira Stove Works Inc. for approximately $3.1 million through a share purchase agreement to expand its heritage appliance portfolio.
