Business
Nuveen Pennsylvania Quality Municipal Income Fund (NYSE: NQP) is a closed-end management investment company that seeks current income exempt from regular federal income taxes and Pennsylvania personal income taxes; its secondary objective is the enhancement of portfolio value. The Fund invests primarily in a portfolio of municipal securities exempt from federal, Pennsylvania state, and local income taxes, with at least 80% of its managed assets allocated to investment-grade securities or unrated securities deemed comparable by the manager; it may invest up to 20% in below-investment-grade municipal securities, of which up to 10% may be rated below B-/B3 or equivalent, and employs leverage to enhance returns. Managed by Nuveen Fund Advisors, LLC, with portfolio managers Steven M. Hlavin and Paul L. Brennan, the Fund targets Pennsylvania municipal bonds that are underrated, undervalued, or represent undervalued market sectors relative to the broader Pennsylvania municipal bond market. Founded on February 21, 1991, and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, as part of Nuveen, a TIAA company with origins dating to 1898, the Fund operates within the U.S. fixed income sector, focusing on tax-exempt municipal bonds for individual and institutional investors seeking tax-advantaged income. In September 2025, the Boards of Trustees of NQP, alongside Nuveen Missouri Quality Municipal Income Fund (NOM), Nuveen New Jersey Quality Municipal Income Fund (NXJ), and Nuveen Municipal High Income Opportunity Fund (NMZ), approved a proposal to merge NOM, NXJ, and NQP into NMZ, pending shareholder approval at annual meetings scheduled for January 16, 2026; the mergers aim to create a larger fund with increased exchange trading volume for common shares while maintaining tax-exempt income objectives.
