Business
New Century Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater Limited since May 2023, operates as an Australian base metals producer focused on zinc tailings retreatment and rehabilitation; it reprocesses legacy zinc tailings at the Century operation in Queensland's Lower Gulf of Carpentaria, 250km northwest of Mount Isa, producing zinc concentrate via Australia's largest hydraulic mining operation supplemented by lead concentrate and advisory services in tailings management and environmental rehabilitation. The company holds interests in the Century Tailings Storage Facility across mining leases ML90045 and ML90058, with an integrated 304km underground pipeline to a port facility at Karumba for concentrate export; it also maintains exploration potential at the Silver King lead-zinc-silver deposit, East Fault Block, South Block, and Watson's Lode deposits for potential mine life extension beyond the current life of mine to 2027, alongside an option over the Mt Lyell copper-gold mine in Tasmania for sustainable green metals production and further tailings reprocessing. Founded in 2010 and headquartered at Level 4, 360 Collins Street in Melbourne, Australia (formerly Attila Resources Limited until July 2017), New Century ranks among the top 15 global zinc producers with attributable mineral reserves of 1,726 million pounds of zinc at 3.0% grade and resources of 3,002 million pounds at 3.8% as of December 2023, operating at all-in sustaining costs of US$1,975/tZn with a workforce of 254. In its latest major development, Sibanye-Stillwater completed a 100% acquisition in May 2023 following an initial 19.99% stake in 2021, integrating Century operations into its global tailings retreatment portfolio while advancing life extension studies and Mt Lyell feasibility.
