Business
Orient Paper & Industries Limited manufactures and sells a diverse range of paper and paperboard products including high-bulk writing and printing paper, tissue paper such as napkins, facial tissues, toilet rolls and towels, specialty papers, cupstock, pulp board, cartridge paper, chromo carry bags and stiffeners; it produces wood and bamboo pulp as well as customized eco-friendly paper solutions for printing, writing, hygiene, wellness and plastic substitution applications. A part of the $2.9-billion CKA Birla Group, the company, founded in 1936 and headquartered in Kolkata, India, operates integrated manufacturing facilities at Amlai in Madhya Pradesh, Brajrajnagar and other locations with an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 tonnes; it exports to over 15 countries including Africa, the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the US, serving domestic and international markets through an extensive dealer network and targeting sectors such as education, health, hygiene and industrial applications. In recent developments, the company entered a strategic partnership with BTG Group in 2024 to implement advanced digital transformation including model predictive controls, AI-driven manufacturing and instrumentation upgrades across its bleach plant, lime kiln and tissue machines to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and boost productivity; it plans a INR 125 crore expansion announced in 2025 to add 8,500 tonnes per annum to its paper capacity within 24 months through debottlenecking and operational optimizations financed by debt and internal accruals; additionally, it launched customer-centric initiatives like Project Khushi in 2023 and expanded its rural outreach impacting 450,000 livelihoods across 1,089 villages while advancing sustainability goals toward carbon-negative and water-positive status with 100% renewable energy usage and reforestation efforts covering 100,000 acres.
