The company produces glass wafers including borosilicate, quartz, fused silica, alkaline-free, and silicon-on-glass variants; carriers and tools such as chemical release, thermal release, laser release, mechanical release carriers, adapter wafers, and handling tools; packaging wafers comprising through-hole wafers, cavity wafers, trenched wafers, customized cap solutions, and wafers with structured silicon layers; interposers featuring glass interposers, silicon interposers, through-glass vias, and redistribution layers; and microfluidics products including micro reactors, fluidic chips, flow chemistry sets, and sensors. It also offers services such as mechanical processing, prototyping, vacuum casting, injection molding, patterning, wafer thinning, coating, wire sawing, and bonding. Planoptik AG serves industries including consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals, with customers such as OSRAM, Infineon, Samsung, Honeywell, and Bosch; wafers support applications in LED headlamps, driver assistance sensors, cell phone cameras, lab-on-chip systems, and medical diagnostics. The company operates internationally from its headquarters in Elsoff, Germany, where it was founded in 1991 and employs approximately 100 staff across a 5,000 square meter facility certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. In July 2024, Plan Optik AG changed its name to Planoptik AG and adopted a new logo and brand identity. In June 2025, it completed a corporate restructuring by merging German subsidiaries MMT GmbH and Little Things Factory GmbH into the parent company to streamline operations, centralize core microsystems technology activities under the Planoptik brand, enhance efficiency, and focus on high-growth products while reducing less profitable peripheral activities; concurrently, the AIRTUNE odor-elimination business was spun off into a separate subsidiary AIRTUNE GmbH.
