Business
Principal International Equity ETF (PIEQ) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund sponsored by Principal Asset Management, designed to seek long-term growth of capital through investment primarily in foreign equity securities, including developed and emerging market companies across small-, medium-, and large-capitalization issuers; the fund is benchmarked to the MSCI ACWI Ex-U.S. NTR Index, trades on the Cboe BZX Exchange, and is managed by Principal’s equities team. Founded in 2024 and headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, the ETF is part of Principal’s broader active ETF platform and is distributed by ALPS Distributors, Inc., while Principal Funds Distributor, Inc. distributes the firm’s mutual funds. The fund’s core offering includes concentrated, fundamental international equity selection with a focus on companies whose free-cash-flow power is viewed as underestimated by the market; as of early September 2026, it reports holdings led by Taiwan Semiconductor, ASML, Samsung Electronics, Teck Resources, AIB Group, Sompo Holdings, Spotify Technology, Suncor Energy, Tencent Holdings, and Haleon, and it maintains exposure across non-U.S. developed and emerging markets. Recent major company changes include the launch of PIEQ in November 2024 as a new large-cap international equity ETF, expanding Principal’s active ETF lineup to meet demand for active ETF solutions; the company said the product buildout brought its ETF suite to 10 offerings, with combined ETF assets of about $4.7 billion at launch. Principal Asset Management also reports continuing portfolio and product development around PIEQ in 2026, including updated fund materials, a stated concentrated core all-weather investment profile, and growth in assets to about $1.4 billion as of September 4, 2026.
