Business
Synergy Grid & Development Philippines, Inc. is a Philippines-based investment holding company that exercises indirect operational control over the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the sole concessionaire and operator of the nationwide electricity transmission system. Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Pasig City, Metro Manila, the company operates in the power transmission and utilities sector, holding controlling economic and voting interests in NGCP through its ownership of OneTaipan Holdings, Inc. and Pacifica21 Holdings, Inc. Through its operating entity, the company provides high-voltage electric power transmission and wheeling services to transport bulk electricity from power generation facilities to distribution utilities, electric cooperatives, and directly connected industrial customers; system operations and power dispatch management to regulate system frequency, manage grid reliability, and balance electricity supply and demand in real time; transmission infrastructure engineering, construction, and asset maintenance, including high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines, submarine power cables, substations, transformer banks, and switchyards; ancillary services procurement and management to secure regulating, contingency, and dispatchable power reserves; and grid interconnection and revenue metering services, encompassing connection impact evaluations, metering facility installation, and transmission billing management. The company's geographic operations span the entire Philippine archipelago across the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids. In recent major developments, the company completed and brought into full commercial operation the landmark Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP), uniting the three major island power systems into a single integrated national grid. Furthermore, the company fully energized the Cebu-Negros-Panay 230-kilovolt (kV) Backbone Project Stage 3 to expand transmission capacity and prevent power disruptions across the Visayas region, alongside the commercial operation of the Hermosa-San Jose 500-kV transmission line to support load growth in Luzon. The company also continues to execute a multi-billion-peso capital expenditure program dedicated to substation automation, smart grid integration, and renewable energy grid integration, while advancing regulatory tariff reset proceedings with the Energy Regulatory Commission to determine its updated rate-setting methodology and maximum allowable revenues for upcoming regulatory periods.
