Business
Lucky Cement Limited is a Pakistan-based multinational conglomerate and building materials company primarily engaged in the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of cement, clinker, and diversified industrial products. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, the company operates as the flagship enterprise of the Yunus Brothers Group and is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol LUCK. Lucky Cement operates across four principal business segments: Cement and Building Materials; Polyester, Soda Ash, Chemicals, and Pharmaceuticals; Automotive and Mobile Devices; and Power Generation. The company's core building materials portfolio encompasses Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), engineered for heavy structural engineering, high-rise buildings, bridges, and general masonry; Sulphate Resistant Cement (SRC), formulated for subterranean foundations, marine structures, irrigation canals, and high-salinity coastal environments; Portland Limestone Cement and composite cements; Block Cement, designed specifically for paving and masonry blocks; and loose and bagged clinker. These products are commercialized under recognized proprietary brands including Lucky Cement, Lucky Star, Lucky Gold, Lucky Supreme, and Raj Cement. Serving commercial contractors, infrastructure developers, industrial enterprises, and retail construction channels, the company further provides soda ash, polyester staple fiber, specialty chemicals, crop sciences, and pharmaceutical formulations through its subsidiary Lucky Core Industries Limited; vehicle assembly, manufacturing, and distribution for automotive marques including Kia and Peugeot, alongside mobile handset assembly, through Lucky Motor Corporation Limited; and thermal, coal, and wind power generation through Lucky Electric Power Company Limited and Yunus Energy Limited. Geographically, Lucky Cement operates dual primary production complexes in Pakistan located in Pezu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Nooriabad, Sindh, supported by dedicated bulk export terminals at the Port of Karachi. Internationally, the company maintains offshore manufacturing operations and joint ventures, including an integrated cement manufacturing plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo through Nyumba Ya Akiba S.A. and clinker and cement grinding facilities in Iraq via Najmat Al-Samawah and Al-Mabrooka, serving export markets across South Asia, the Middle East, and East and Central Africa. Recent operational and strategic developments include the commissioning of a 28.8-megawatt captive wind power project and multiple utility-scale captive solar installations at its Karachi facility, creating a hybrid renewable energy infrastructure that supplies over 55 percent of the company's power requirements for cement operations. The company also completed process debottlenecking and capacity optimization at its Karachi plant, raising total domestic cement production capacity to 15.6 million metric tonnes per annum and aggregate global manufacturing capacity across Pakistan, Iraq, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to over 23 million metric tonnes per annum. Abroad, Lucky Cement successfully commissioned a 1.82 million metric tonnes per annum clinker production line at its Najmat Al-Samawah plant in Iraq and initiated a 1.6 million metric tonnes per annum integrated plant expansion at its Nyumba Ya Akiba joint venture in the Democratic Republic of Congo to capitalize on regional infrastructure demand.
