Business
PGIM International Bond Fund Class A (PXBAX) is a mutual fund that seeks total return, consisting of current income and capital appreciation, by investing primarily in fixed or floating rate fixed income instruments of foreign corporations and governments denominated in U.S. dollars or foreign currencies; under normal market conditions, it invests in securities from at least three foreign countries, including emerging markets, with up to 35% of total assets in lower-rated or unrated securities comparable to below investment grade; it may also allocate up to 25% of net assets to derivatives such as futures, options, foreign currency forward contracts, and swaps for enhancing returns or hedging risks, including foreign currency exposure; additional holdings include mortgage-related securities, asset-backed securities such as collateralized debt obligations, and money market instruments. The Fund, part of Prudential Investment Portfolios 9 and managed by PGIM Fixed Income—a division of PGIM, Inc., the asset management arm of Prudential Financial, Inc.—offers share classes including A (PXBAX), C (PXBCX), Z (PXBZX), and R6 (PXBQX), targeting retail and institutional investors seeking exposure to the World Bond-USD Hedged category. Headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, PGIM traces its roots to Prudential Financial's founding in 1875 and operates globally across 41 offices in 19 countries, managing over $1.39 trillion in assets with a focus on fixed income, equity, real estate, and alternatives. In a significant operational change, the Fund's Board of Trustees approved its liquidation in June 2023 due to performance and low asset levels, closing the Fund to most purchases and exchanges by June 30, 2023, converting its portfolio to cash equivalents, and redeeming shares at net asset value on or about October 25, 2023, with waivers of contingent deferred sales charges. PGIM, the Fund's sponsor, has pursued broader strategic expansions, including a September 2025 partnership with Partners Group to deliver multi-asset solutions blending public fixed income and private markets; the August 2025 launch of three actively managed fixed income ETFs (PGIM Corporate Bond 0-5 Year ETF - PCS, 5-10 Year ETF - PCI, and 10+ Year ETF - PCL); and an agreement to acquire Deerpath Capital to enhance its $237 billion alternatives platform, particularly in direct lending.
