Business
Restaurant Brands International Limited Partnership (TSX: QSP-UN) operates and franchises quick service restaurants worldwide through its ownership of iconic brands including Tim Hortons, Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Firehouse Subs; the partnership functions as a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International Inc., with the latter serving as its general partner. Tim Hortons offers coffee, other beverages, baked goods and food products; Burger King provides flame-grilled hamburgers, chicken, specialty sandwiches and related items; Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen specializes in fried bone-in chicken, chicken sandwiches, tenders, wings, fried shrimp and regional menu options; Firehouse Subs features hot sandwiches and subs with steamed meats and cheeses, chopped salads, chili, soups, sides and soft drinks. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and founded in 1954, the partnership previously known as New Red Canada Limited Partnership changed its name in December 2014 and conducts operations across more than 120 countries and territories through six segments: Tim Hortons, Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Firehouse Subs, International and Restaurant Holdings, with approximately 32,000 system-wide restaurants including roughly 16,500 in the U.S. and Canada. Recent strategic developments include the 2024 acquisitions of Carrols Restaurant Group Inc., its largest Burger King franchisee in the U.S., and Popeyes China, both integrated into the new Restaurant Holdings segment to enhance operational efficiency and market presence; in early 2025, the partnership bought out partners' stakes in Burger King China for US$158 million and launched a joint venture with CPE as the new master franchisee while seeking additional local partners for refranchising and expansion in China and Brazil. These moves support accelerated net unit growth at Popeyes China and Firehouse Subs Brazil, alongside increased remodels for acquired Burger King locations and projected capital expenditures of $400 million to $450 million in 2025.
