Business
Redeia Corporación, S.A. (RED.MC) serves as the holding company for a diversified group specializing in the management and operation of strategic electricity transmission and telecommunications infrastructures, acting as the backbone of Spain's electricity system and a leader in digital connectivity across Spain and Latin America. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Alcobendas, near Madrid, Spain, the company operates primarily through subsidiaries including Red Eléctrica de España (REE), which designs, builds, maintains, and owns over 52,813 km of high-voltage national and international electricity circuits, 94,981 MVA of transformation capacity at 6,357 substation positions, and interconnections such as those with France, Morocco, the Balearic Islands, and Canary Islands; Red Eléctrica Internacional (Redinter), managing transmission assets in Peru (1,686 km), Chile (1,729 km), and Brazil; Reintel, the largest provider of dark fibre optic networks in Spain with more than 52,000 km essential for universal connectivity; Hispasat, operating 10 geostationary satellites for broadcast, broadband, and governmental communications services; and Elewit, a technological innovation platform driving energy transition and digital solutions. The group delivers regulated services in electricity transmission and system operation in Spain's non-peninsular systems, international transmission concessions, satellite telecommunications, and fibre optic infrastructure leasing, targeting utilities, governments, broadcasters, telecom operators, and digital service providers across Spain, Peru, Chile, Brazil, the Netherlands, France, and other Latin American markets. In recent developments, Redeia rebranded from Red Eléctrica Corporación in 2023 to reflect its expanded focus on electricity and connectivity; entered an agreement in early 2025 to sell 89.68% of Hispasat to Indra Group for approximately 725 million euros, bolstering its financial position with total proceeds of 821 million euros including dividends; significantly ramped up investments in 2024 to an unprecedented level via REE to accelerate Spain's energy transition, with total TSO investments rising under the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan toward 5,000 million euros, over 78% allocated to transmission networks, interconnections, storage, and system operation; and continued international expansion, including prior 2022 acquisitions via Argo Energía adding 4,125 km of Brazilian transmission lines for 200 million euros investment.
