- First Trust Bloomberg R&D Leaders ETF (RND) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks investment results corresponding generally to the price and yield, before fees and expenses, of the Bloomberg R&D Leaders Select Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities comprising the index, which targets U.S. companies from the Bloomberg US 1000 Index parent universe that demonstrate leadership in research and development by increasing R&D expenditures for at least three consecutive years, ranking in the top 90th percentile for R&D expenditures to sales ratio, free float market capitalization, and 90-day average daily trading value; the top 50 eligible securities are selected and weighted by issuer free float market capitalization, with issuer weights capped at 8% (top five at up to exceeding 4%) and sector weights at 40%. It offers exposure to large- and mid-cap growth-oriented firms across diversified sectors including information technology, healthcare, and consumer discretionary, with top holdings such as NVIDIA Corp, Apple Inc, Amazon.com Inc, Microsoft Corp, and Meta Platforms Inc as of mid-2024. Launched on April 30, 2024, and domiciled in the United States, the ETF lists on NYSE Arca with a net expense ratio of 0.60%; First Trust Advisors L.P. serves as investment advisor, with a team including Roger Testin, Daniel Lindquist, Jon Erickson, David McGarel, Stan Ueland, Chris Peterson, and Erik Russo managing the portfolio.
