Business
Roche Holding AG is a Swiss multinational healthcare company that develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceuticals and diagnostics worldwide. Founded in 1896 and headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, the company operates through two primary segments: Pharmaceuticals, which focuses on prescription medicines in oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, neuroscience, ophthalmology, haematology, inflammatory and respiratory diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders; and Diagnostics, which provides in vitro diagnostic equipment, reagents and solutions including professional diagnostics, molecular diagnostics, diabetes care, tissue diagnostics and applied science products targeting physicians, hospitals, clinics, consumers and research settings in academia and industry. Roche maintains a global presence with significant operations across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and other regions, and holds majority ownership in Chugai Pharmaceutical in Japan while fully owning Genentech in the United States. In recent developments, Roche entered a definitive merger agreement in September 2025 to acquire 89bio for up to $3.5 billion to bolster its cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases portfolio with pegozafermin, a phase 3 FGF21 analog for moderate to severe metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH); received European Commission conditional approval for subcutaneous Lunsumio in relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma; reported positive phase III results for fenebrutinib in multiple sclerosis; and announced a clinical trial collaboration with KaliVir Immunotherapeutics for oncology immunotherapies, alongside prior acquisitions such as Carmot Therapeutics in 2024, Televant Holdings and Good Therapeutics programs.
