Business
Royal Bank of Canada (RY-PT) is a diversified global financial services company that provides personal and commercial banking; wealth management including investment management, private banking, trust and estate planning services; capital markets encompassing corporate and investment banking, debt and equity underwriting, sales and trading; insurance products such as life, health, home, auto, travel and reinsurance; and investor and treasury services to individuals, businesses, corporations, institutions and governments. The bank operates primarily in Canada and the United States with additional presence in the Caribbean and 27 other countries, serving over 19 million clients through 1,284 branches and more than 97,000 employees. Founded in 1864 and headquartered in Toronto with its head office in Montreal, RBC maintains leading market positions across its segments, including as Canada's largest bank by market capitalization. In March 2024, RBC completed the acquisition of HSBC Bank Canada for C$13.5 billion in cash plus preferred shares and subordinated debt, adding 780,000 clients, 4,500 employees and significant retail and commercial banking operations primarily serving international clients in Canada; the deal has delivered cost synergies exceeding initial targets and generated C$115 million in cross-sold revenue in fiscal 2025 through AI integration and product cross-selling. The bank continues to pursue U.S. expansion via targeted acquisitions of wealth management firms to bolster sweep deposits, treasury management and lending for global clients, particularly those entering Asian markets, while leveraging its City National Bank subsidiary. In November 2024, RBC Global Asset Management's Canadian Core Real Estate Fund executed a C$860 million asset purchase, C$175 million disposition and C$250 million green bond issuance, growing assets to over C$4 billion and underscoring ongoing real estate investment activity.
