Business
Rydex Health Care Fund (RYHIX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks capital appreciation by investing substantially all (at least 80%) of its net assets in equity securities of health care companies traded in the United States, including those with small- to mid-sized capitalizations; derivatives, primarily futures contracts and options on securities, futures contracts, and stock indices; American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) for exposure to foreign health care companies; and U.S. government securities. The fund targets the health care industry segment, encompassing pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), hospitals, nursing homes, and service providers, with top holdings including Eli Lilly & Co., UnitedHealth Group Inc., Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie Inc., and Abbott Laboratories. It operates primarily in U.S. markets for individual and institutional investors seeking sector-specific exposure. Launched on April 17, 1998, the Investor Class (RYHIX) is part of the Rydex Series Trust, managed by a team at Security Investors, LLC, with Guggenheim Funds Distributors, LLC serving as distributor; the fund is advised under the Guggenheim Investments umbrella, affiliated with Guggenheim Partners, LLC. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, through Guggenheim entities, it maintains a net expense ratio of 1.39% and gross expense ratio of 1.44%, with annual distributions if applicable. In recent years, Guggenheim Investments has undergone strategic reorganizations, including phasing out the Rydex ETF brand in favor of Guggenheim branding while retaining Rydex for certain mutual funds like RYHIX; a 2015 re-designation of Advisor Class shares to Class H (RYHAX); and a June 2024 agreement for New Age Alpha to acquire Guggenheim Investments' quantitative strategies platform, potentially impacting affiliated fund operations. The fund continues team-managed operations with no reported recent product launches, acquisitions, or major portfolio shifts beyond ongoing holdings adjustments, such as new positions in Tempus AI Inc., Waystar Holding Corp., and SpringWorks Therapeutics Inc.
