Business
Global X Russell 2000 Covered Call ETF (RYLD) is an exchange-traded fund that employs a covered call option writing strategy to generate income on the Russell 2000 Index. The fund invests primarily in a portfolio replicating the Russell 2000 Index of small-cap U.S. equities while selling monthly at-the-money call options on up to 100% of that portfolio to produce high current income alongside capped participation in the index's upside; its core offerings include systematic options overlays, dividend reinvestment from underlying holdings, and total return distributions paid monthly to shareholders. RYLD operates globally through listings on the Cboe BZX Exchange, targeting income-focused investors such as retirees, yield-seeking institutions, and tactical allocation managers in the U.S. and international markets. Launched in 2019 by Global X Management Company LLC, a subsidiary of Mirae Asset Global Investments headquartered in New York, the ETF has seen recent enhancements including refined options strike selection algorithms in 2024 to optimize yield in volatile markets and expanded availability through new broker-dealer partnerships amid rising demand for alternative income strategies post-2023 Federal Reserve rate hikes. In late 2024, Global X announced strategic integrations with Mirae Asset's thematic ETF suite, bolstering RYLD's distribution channels without altering its core small-cap covered call mandate.
