- Sakthi Sugars Limited is an Indian sugar manufacturing company engaged primarily in the production and sale of sugar and related products. The company was incorporated in 1961 and commenced commercial sugar production in 1964 at its Sakthinagar plant in Tamil Nadu. It operates four sugar manufacturing units located at Sakthinagar, Sivaganga, Modakurichi in Tamil Nadu, and Dhenkanal in Odisha with an aggregate crushing capacity of approximately 19,000 tonnes of cane per day. Sakthi Sugars produces a range of sugar products including high-quality white sugar, raw sugar, and refined sugar. In addition, the company manufactures industrial alcohol such as rectified spirit, extra neutral alcohol, and ethanol from molasses. It also produces sugar by-products like molasses, bagasse, and press mud, along with bio earth products used as organic fertilizers and soil improvers. The company has significant power generation capacity with three co-generation power plants in its factories in Tamil Nadu totaling 92 megawatts, of which surplus power is exported to the grid. Further diversification includes soya products manufactured at an advanced processing unit near Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, with an annual capacity of 90,000 metric tonnes of soybeans processed to produce refined oil, de-oiled cake, full-fat soya meal, soya flour flakes, and textured vegetable protein. Sakthi Sugars is part of the Sakthi Group and headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
In recent years, Sakthi Sugars has undergone significant operational changes including the sale of its sugar and distillery units in Dhenkanal, Odisha to Indian Potash Limited to streamline its operations. The company continues to focus on value addition and diversification with emphasis on ethanol production under the government-backed Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program, which is expected to offer higher-margin opportunities. Sakthi Sugars also utilizes by-products like bagasse and press mud for sustainable power generation and environmental initiatives. Its subsidiary, Sakthi Auto Component Limited, acquired the entire share capital of Orlandofin B.V., Netherlands, expanding its international footprint and advanced manufacturing capabilities. The company maintains strategic partnerships with technology providers to enhance production efficiency and product innovation. Despite financial fluctuations in recent quarters, Sakthi Sugars remains one of the largest sugar producers in India with a broad product portfolio spanning sugar, industrial alcohol, power, and soya products, operating predominantly in India with exports to countries including Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.
