Schwab Short-Term U.S. Treasury ETF (SCHO), issued by Schwab Strategic Trust and managed by Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc., is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the total return of the Bloomberg US Treasury 1-3 Year Index before fees and expenses. The fund provides exposure to U.S. Treasury securities with remaining maturities of 1 to 3 years, excluding STRIPS, state and local government bonds, and non-fixed-rate or convertible issues; it holds approximately 98 securities, predominantly investment-grade U.S. government bonds rated AA, with a weighted average maturity of 2.00 years, effective duration of 1.9 years, and total net assets of $11.85 billion as of December 17, 2025. Launched on August 5, 2010, and listed on NYSE Arca, Inc., SCHO features a low expense ratio of 0.030% and monthly income distributions, targeting investors seeking low-cost, tax-efficient access to the short-end of the U.S. Treasury yield curve as a core portfolio component. The fund operates primarily in the U.S. fixed income market, serving individual and institutional investors focused on government bond segments with minimal credit risk. In October 2024, SCHO underwent a 2-for-1 forward share split, effective for shareholders of record as of October 9, 2024, with trading on the post-split price commencing October 11, 2024; this increased shares outstanding and proportionately reduced net asset value per share without altering total shareholder value. While Schwab Asset Management reduced fees on select equity index ETFs in June 2025 and launched new fixed income products such as the Schwab Core Bond ETF in January 2025 and Schwab Mortgage-Backed Securities ETF in November 2024, SCHO maintained its 0.030% expense ratio with no reported capital gains distributions for the 2024 tax year across Schwab's ETF lineup. Headquartered in Westlake, Texas, under The Charles Schwab Corporation, the fund reflects ongoing efforts to enhance cost efficiency and portfolio building blocks amid broader platform expansions.
