Business
Schaeffler AG (SHAF.SW) is a leading global motion technology company that develops, manufactures, and supplies precision components and systems for automotive, industrial, and mobility applications; its core offerings span eight product families including rolling and plain bearings, linear guidance systems, clutch systems, transmission components, torsion dampers, valve train systems, camshaft phasing units, electric drives, powertrain and chassis solutions, energy generation and storage systems, sensors, actuators, electronics, and digital services, marketed through brands such as INA, FAG, and LuK. The company operates four focused divisions—E-Mobility, Powertrain & Chassis, Vehicle Lifetime Solutions, and Bearings & Industrial Solutions—serving original equipment manufacturers, the aftermarket, and industrial customers across automotive, commercial vehicles, rail, aerospace, and renewable energy sectors in over 50 countries with more than 250 locations and approximately 120,000 employees. Founded in 1946 by brothers Wilhelm and Georg Schaeffler in Herzogenaurach, Germany, where the headquarters remain, Schaeffler maintains a family-controlled structure through holding companies led by Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler-Thumann and Georg F. W. Schaeffler. In recent major developments, Schaeffler completed the merger with Vitesco Technologies Group AG in October 2024, integrating its electrification expertise to create a broader portfolio for sustainable mobility, expecting annual EBIT synergies of 600 million euros by 2029; the company announced structural measures in November 2024 to right-size its European footprint, targeting 815 million euros in annual savings through job reductions and site closures; it strengthened its robotics capabilities with the acquisition of Melior Motion GmbH, enhanced the industrial segment via purchases of Ewellix Group and CERASPIN, and expanded in India through a 1,700 crore rupee investment over three years including the 2023 acquisition of Koovers for digital aftermarket e-commerce, alongside a new manufacturing facility for powertrain and e-mobility; most recently in December 2025, Schaeffler signed a memorandum of understanding with Helsing for drone technology cooperation.
