Business
SanJac Alpha Core Plus Bond ETF (SJCP) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks current income and total returns consistent with limited volatility and the preservation of capital by investing primarily in a diversified portfolio of investment-grade U.S. corporate and government debt securities, including those issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government or its agencies or instrumentalities; mortgage-backed securities; mortgage real estate investment trusts; and preferred stocks rated Baa3 or higher by Moody's or BBB- or higher by S&P, with varying maturities and a moderate portfolio duration of up to 10 years. The fund employs a top-down strategic management approach combined with bottom-up credit analysis to identify alpha opportunities, limit total credit exposure to 40% or less, and actively manage risk through data-driven trading, rate hedging, and volatility dampening strategies, with top holdings typically including U.S. Treasury notes, agency securities, and select mortgage REITs and preferred stocks. Launched on September 10, 2024, and domiciled in the United States, SJCP trades on Nasdaq and is a series of Manager Directed Portfolios, managed by Andrew Wells and Andrey Vladyko of SanJac Alpha LP, a Houston-based investment management firm founded in 2024 and backed by former affiliates including Saracen Energy. In a significant launch event, SanJac Alpha simultaneously introduced SJCP alongside the SanJac Alpha Low Duration ETF (SJLD) on September 10, 2024, marking the firm's entry into the actively managed fixed income ETF market with a competitive expense ratio of 0.65% and a focus on U.S. fixed income markets for institutional and retail investors seeking income-oriented exposure with daily liquidity. As of mid-2025, the fund maintained assets under management around $1.25 million to $1.78 million, with ongoing portfolio adjustments reflected in its May 31, 2025, annual report showing approximately 57.5% in U.S. Treasury securities, 19.7% in exchange-traded mortgage REIT debt, and the balance in other fixed income instruments, demonstrating continued active positioning amid volatile rate environments without reported acquisitions, partnerships, or major strategic shifts since inception.
