Business
PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR.JK) produces and distributes cement and related products primarily in Indonesia, operating integrated facilities for clinker production, cement grinding, and packaging. The company offers ordinary Portland cement (OPC) types I, II, and V; Portland composite cement (PCC); Baturaja mortar cement in various types; and white clay products, all certified to Indonesian National Standards (SNI) and supported by quality management systems including ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017. It serves construction and building materials markets through distributors across South Sumatra, Lampung, Jambi, Bengkulu, and other regions, with main plants in Baturaja (clinker capacity of 2.7 million tons/year and cement capacity of 3.85 million tons/year), Palembang, and Panjang. Founded on November 14, 1974, and headquartered in Palembang, South Sumatra, the company originally operated as PT Semen Baturaja (Persero) with initial ownership split between PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Gresik before full government acquisition in 1991 and listing as a public company in 2013. PT Semen Baturaja Tbk functions as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), following the completion of a major share transfer from the Indonesian government to SIG in December 2022, marking its transition from Persero to Tbk status and integration into the national cement holding structure. Recent developments include the commercial launch of the Baturaja II plant in September 2017, boosting total cement capacity to 3.85 million tons annually, and ongoing business transformation as of 2025 to enhance SIG Group value chain roles, distribution efficiency, and multi-brand penetration in Sumatran markets. In 2025, the company earned recognition as Indonesia's Best Public Company for strong fundamentals and growth potential amid diversification strategies. Market speculation emerged in May 2025 regarding a potential divestment of SIG's 75.51% stake amid interest from foreign players like India's UltraTech Cement, though no transaction has been confirmed. Additionally, PT Semen Baturaja Tbk advances energy transition efforts through alternative fuel and raw material (AFR) utilization to support sustainable operations.
