Sony Group Corporation (SONYN.MX) engages primarily in the development, production, and sale of electronic equipment, devices, and entertainment content worldwide. The company operates through key segments including Game & Network Services, which encompasses PlayStation consoles, digital software, add-on content, and network services; Music, covering recorded music, music publishing, and visual media platforms; Pictures, comprising motion pictures, television productions, and media networks; Entertainment Technology & Services, including televisions, audio and video products, still and video cameras, and mobile communications; Imaging & Sensing Solutions, focused on CMOS image sensors and professional cameras; Financial Services, such as insurance and banking through subsidiaries; and other businesses. Sony Group manufactures and markets consumer electronics like wireless earphones, professional broadcasting cameras, and home entertainment systems; produces game consoles and software; and distributes music, films, and anime content. Founded on May 7, 1946, and headquartered at 1-7-1 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo 108-0075, Japan, the company maintains major offices and research centers in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Miyagi, with global operations spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions through numerous subsidiaries including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Bank, and Crunchyroll. Recent strategic developments include a July 2025 business alliance with Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., under which Sony acquired approximately 2.5% of Bandai Namco's shares for 68 billion yen to expand anime and manga IP collaboration, joint content production, merchandising, and fan engagement technologies. In late 2024, Sony entered negotiations to acquire Kadokawa Corporation to strengthen its gaming and anime portfolios, building on its existing stakes in FromSoftware and Kadokawa. Sony Bank is preparing to launch a US dollar-pegged stablecoin by 2026 via a new US subsidiary, partnering with Bastion and applying for a US banking license to integrate blockchain payments into PlayStation, anime, and other entertainment services. In October 2024, Sony acquired Kinatrax for sports performance analytics technology.
