Business
Direxion Daily S&P 500 Bull 2X Shares (SPUU) is a leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF) that seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, equal to 200% of the performance of the S&P 500 Index. The fund provides amplified exposure to the large-cap U.S. equity market through financial instruments including swaps, futures contracts, and direct holdings in S&P 500 constituents; it tracks the float-adjusted, market capitalization-weighted S&P 500 Index (SPXT), with top holdings such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Apple, and sector weightings led by information technology at approximately 34%. Launched on May 28, 2014, and listed on NYSE Arca, SPUU is managed by Rafferty Asset Management, LLC, part of Direxion Shares ETF Trust, a provider of leveraged and inverse ETFs founded in 1997 and headquartered in New York, New York, with additional offices in Boston, Massachusetts, and Hong Kong. SPUU targets sophisticated investors seeking short-term tactical trading opportunities in bull markets, with a net expense ratio of 0.60% under an operating expense limitation agreement through September 1, 2026; the fund distributes quarterly income dividends, such as $0.37920 on July 1, 2025, and maintains assets under management of approximately $202.86 million. In recent developments, Direxion enhanced its distribution capabilities in September 2024 by partnering with SS&C ALPS Distributors to provide medallion distribution services, FINRA compliance, and registered fund services for its ETF lineup, including SPUU, to support broader market reach and growth. The firm continued its product innovation in late 2024 and 2025 with launches of new single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs targeting companies such as Berkshire Hathaway, Palantir, Oracle, Coinbase, Robinhood, and Intel, alongside short-term trading tools for crypto and AI infrastructure exposure. Operational updates for SPUU include the introduction of Direxion's ETF Alert Service in January 2024 for real-time price and volume notifications.
