Business
Star Paper Mills Limited manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of paper and paperboard products primarily serving industrial, packaging, and cultural segments. The company’s product portfolio includes industrial packaging paper such as testliner, fluting, kraft top liner, semi-kraft, and recycled paper for bags; writing and printing papers including document and photocopier papers marketed under the 'Star Copier' brand; food-grade and antifungal papers catering to the FMCG industry; and specialty paper grades for various coating applications and lamination bases. It operates integrated pulp and paper mills with production facilities in India, notably in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and has expanded internationally with a state-of-the-art recycled containerboard facility in KEZAD, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Founded in 1936 and headquartered in Kolkata, India, Star Paper Mills is part of the Duncan Goenka Group and holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certifications, supported by an R&D unit recognized by the Ministry of Science & Technology of India. In recent strategic developments, Star Paper Mills has entered a significant partnership with Heinzel Sales, a leading European pulp and paper trading group, to exclusively distribute its recycled packaging paper products manufactured at its Abu Dhabi containerboard facility. This new facility, designed to produce 134,000 metric tons per annum of high-quality recycled paper with a deckle width of 5.2 meters and basis weights ranging from 80 to 220 GSM, includes product lines like testliner, fluting, kraft top liner, and semi-kraft. Commercial production is anticipated to commence by Q4 2025, marking the company's expansion into international markets including the Middle East, Africa, and Central America. This distribution alliance represents a strategic move to enhance global footprint and reinforce Star Paper Mills’ commitment to sustainability and innovation in paper manufacturing. The company also continues capacity upgrades and modernization efforts at its Indian facilities, leveraging technology to produce a wide range of paper grades with diverse GSM, including machine-glazed and machine-finished papers. It maintains a significant presence in the industrial paper segment with products for mailing and carry bags, as well as cultural papers well-regarded for their quality. Star Paper Mills engages in sustainable forestry activities supporting eucalyptus and poplar plantations, directly sourcing raw materials from farmers to ensure supply chain integrity and support rural economies. These initiatives, along with its ongoing product innovation and capacity expansion, position Star Paper Mills as a leading integrated paper manufacturer with diversified offerings across domestic and international markets.
