Business
Stelco Holdings Inc., a Canadian steel producer founded in 1910 and headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, engages in the production and sale of flat-rolled value-added steel products, including coated, pre-painted, cold-rolled, and hot-rolled sheet products; pig iron; and metallurgical coke, supplied to customers in the steel service center, appliance, automotive, energy, construction, pipe, and tube industries across Canada, the United States, and internationally. The company operates advanced integrated steelmaking facilities at Hamilton Works in Hamilton, Ontario, and Lake Erie Works near Nanticoke, Ontario, offering specialized brands such as Stelco Hot Roll Products, Hot Roll Automotive, Stelmax 80, Stelmax 90, and Stelmax 100, with capabilities in gauge, crown, and shape control for uniform mechanical properties. In October 2024, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. completed its acquisition of Stelco Holdings Inc. for approximately $2.5 billion (CAD $3.4 billion), integrating Stelco's operations into Cliffs' North American steelmaking platform to diversify customer bases, enhance flat-rolled spot market exposure, achieve an estimated $120 million in annual cost synergies through procurement, overhead, and other efficiencies, and expand capabilities in automotive, construction, and industrial sectors without impacting union jobs. Post-acquisition, Stelco continues its legacy under Cleveland-Cliffs, maintaining community commitments such as increased charitable support by CAD $2 million annually, partnerships with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Forge FC including a 40% equity interest in Hamilton Sports Group, and operations from its Ontario facilities now co-located with headquarters at 386 Wilcox Street in Hamilton.
