- Schwab Target 2030 Index Fund Institutional Shares (SWYEX) is an open-end mutual fund that seeks capital appreciation and income consistent with its target-date asset allocation, designed for investors planning retirement around 2030. The fund invests primarily in a diversified portfolio of affiliated Schwab exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including Schwab U.S. Large-Cap ETF (SCHX, approximately 36%), Schwab U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (SCHZ, approximately 35%), Schwab International Equity ETF (SCHF, approximately 14%), Schwab U.S. REIT ETF (SCHH, approximately 4%), Schwab Short-Term U.S. Treasury ETF (SCHO, approximately 3%), Schwab U.S. Small-Cap ETF (SCHA), Schwab U.S. TIPS ETF (SCHP), and Schwab Emerging Markets Equity ETF (SCHE); this allocation targets approximately 59% equities (U.S. and international), 39% fixed income, and 2% cash equivalents, with a glide path that gradually shifts toward conservative fixed income and cash as the target date approaches. Launched on August 25, 2016, and managed by Schwab Asset Management, a division of The Charles Schwab Corporation (founded 1971, headquartered in Westlake, Texas), SWYEX operates globally through its underlying ETFs, providing exposure to U.S. large-cap, small-cap, REITs, international developed and emerging markets equities; U.S. aggregate, short-term Treasury, and inflation-protected bonds; with a net expense ratio of 0.08% and total net assets exceeding $1.6 billion. In June 2025, Schwab Asset Management announced forward share splits on six mutual funds, including related target-date and index funds, to enhance accessibility by aligning net asset values closer to initial prices, alongside expense ratio reductions on several equity index ETFs that comprise SWYEX's holdings, such as Schwab International Equity ETF (SCHF) and Schwab Emerging Markets Equity ETF (SCHE). The parent company, The Charles Schwab Corporation, agreed in November 2025 to acquire Forge Global, a private shares platform, for $660 million, expanding its offerings beyond traditional mutual funds and ETFs.
