Business
Thompson Bond Fund (THOPX) is an open-end fixed income mutual fund that seeks a higher level of current income while preserving capital by investing at least 80% of its net assets, plus any borrowing for investment purposes, in a diversified portfolio of bonds and debt securities. The fund offers exposure to investment-grade corporate bonds of domestic issuers and foreign issuers payable in U.S. dollars; short-term debt instruments; mortgage- and asset-backed securities; bonds of foreign government issuers, including their agencies and instrumentalities, payable in U.S. dollars; and U.S. Treasury securities and other debt securities issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government, including its agencies and instrumentalities, rated in the four highest credit rating categories by S&P, Moody's, or Fitch with varying maturities. It benchmarks performance against the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Total Return Index USD, with a portfolio emphasizing medium-quality bonds rated A to BBB (68.56% allocation) alongside some lower-rated junk bonds (14.69%) for an average quality rating of BBB. Launched on February 10, 1992, and domiciled in the United States, the fund is managed by Thompson Investment Management, Inc. (TIM), based in Madison, Wisconsin, with total net assets of approximately $1.70-$1.78 billion and a net expense ratio of 0.74%. Portfolio management is led by James Evans, CFA, Chief Investment Officer and Principal at TIM since February 2009, alongside Jason Stephens, CFA, Chief Executive Officer, Principal, and Portfolio Manager, who employs a strategy focused on risk-adjusted returns evidenced by a low beta of 0.22-0.29 and positive alpha of 1.61-3.07 relative to fixed income benchmarks. The fund was formerly known as Thompson Plumb Funds, Inc. - Thompson Plumb Bond Fund, reflecting a rebranding under Thompson IM Funds, Inc. to align with TIM's structure, with no reported recent acquisitions, funding rounds, partnerships, new product launches, or major strategic shifts in the last 1-2 years. It primarily serves individual and institutional investors seeking short-term bond exposure in the global fixed income market, with operations centered in the U.S. and investments spanning domestic and USD-denominated foreign debt markets.
