Business
Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company is a Vietnam-based utility company primarily engaged in the generation, transmission, and wholesale distribution of coal-fired electricity. Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, the company operates as a key power-generating subsidiary within the ecosystem of Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO 1) and Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The company operates the Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant complex, which encompasses four generating units across Quang Ninh 1 and Quang Ninh 2 plants with an aggregate installed capacity of 1,200 megawatts. Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company structures its offerings into three core commercial areas: electricity generation and wholesale supply, comprising baseload electric energy transmitted directly to the national grid; industrial by-product commercialization, comprising fly ash, bottom ash, and flue-gas desulfurization gypsum supplied to cement and building materials manufacturers; and technical support services, comprising thermal power plant operation and maintenance (O&M), mechanical and electrical equipment overhauls, diagnostic testing, and engineering advisory for thermal energy infrastructure. The company serves domestic industrial, commercial, and residential sectors exclusively through Vietnam's national power transmission network. In recent operational developments, the company has completed major technical overhauls and equipment modernization across its 300-megawatt turbine-generator units to maximize generation reliability and plant availability during peak dry-season grid demand in northern Vietnam. In response to Vietnam's National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8) decarbonization directives, the company has initiated feasibility assessments and technological trials for co-firing biomass with pulverized coal, alongside upgrading its electrostatic precipitators and emissions monitoring systems. Furthermore, the company has restructured its fuel procurement strategy by optimizing blended domestic and imported coal supplies with Vinacomin and Dong Bac Corporation, while simultaneously retiring its remaining long-term construction debt to enhance operating cash flows and balance-sheet liquidity.
