Business
Vanguard Small-Cap Growth ETF (VBK) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of the CRSP US Small Cap Growth Index, which measures the investment return of small-capitalization growth stocks in the United States. The fund employs a full replication strategy, investing all or substantially all of its assets in the stocks comprising the index, held in approximate proportion to their weightings; it focuses primarily on small-cap growth companies across diversified sectors such as technology, healthcare, consumer discretionary, and industrials, with some exposure to mid-cap stocks to moderate volatility. Key holdings include growth-oriented small-cap equities exhibiting high earnings growth, sales growth, and return on assets, totaling over 570 stocks with no single position exceeding 2%; the fund maintains a low expense ratio of 0.07% and total net assets exceeding $33 billion as of late 2025. Launched on January 26, 2004, and domiciled in the United States, VBK trades on NYSE Arca under the ticker VBK and is managed by The Vanguard Group, Inc., headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania. In early 2025, Vanguard implemented its largest fee reduction in history, lowering expense ratios across 87 funds including select share classes, saving investors an estimated $350 million annually and further reducing VBK's costs to enhance long-term competitiveness. Amid ongoing asset growth under new CEO Salim Ramji, Vanguard established a dedicated advice and wealth management division in 2025, while VBK itself experienced net outflows of approximately $1 billion over the past year amid broader small-cap growth market dynamics. The fund operates exclusively in U.S. equity markets, targeting long-term investors seeking exposure to the higher-growth, higher-volatility segment of small-cap stocks.
